Synopsis:
Summer, 1977
Fourteen-year-old Jack Blackfox Kelly has good reason to
be upset. His mother has just ruined his life. What was
supposed to be a summer of surfing and girl-watching
turns into a nightmare when his flaky mother decides to
move from Santa Barbara back home to the boondocks of
Arkansas with her sister Julene, the local witch doctor.
Turned loose in the wilderness of the Ozark Mountains,
Jack discovers that his real father was a shape-shifting
ghoul known as an Ozark Howler – and now that Jack’s
coming of age, his own ghoulish tendencies are beginning
to materialize – an unfortunate fate which is going to make
dating difficult. Besides worrying about changing into a
bloodthirsty howler and attacking the chickens, Jack
discovers that the whole move to Arkansas was
orchestrated by his Aunt who plans to turn him into the new
witch doctor because she says he's got magic power in his
blood.
Jack soon realizes that Arkansas is a very bad place to get
lonely, so he concentrates his efforts in making the best out
of the situation. He decides that things ain’t so bad after he
finds out that they’ve got girls in Arkansas - one anyway.
Although Periwinkle chews tobacco like a big league ball
player and carries a loaded shotgun, Jack finds himself
charmed by her backwoods ways.
But smokin' hot hillbilly chicks are the last thing on Jack's
mind. For now, he needs to figure out why his Aunt Julene
has chosen him to save the state of Arkansas from the
forces of darkness.
